Dear Students and Parents:                                                             February 13, 2012

It’s time once again to register for our spring crew season.  Join our winning team            !

The Spring Program will begin on March 1st with a meeting for the students at 2:45pm in Cafeteria B.  Practices will begin March 5th and continue through to the end of May.  Practices are held Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 5:45 pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 11:30am at Eagle Dock Beach in Cold Spring Harbor.  Students are required to either take Bus “O” from the High School or ride with a parent or fellow rower (VARSITY ONLY).  The school prohibits walking or bike riding to practice.  Parents must make arrangements for students to return home after practice.  Attendance at all practices is expected. There will be mandatory practice during the Spring break, except for Friday, April 6th.

Crew has a very high participation level at Cold Spring Harbor High School.  With safety being our highest priority, a selection process may be necessary.  The coaches will use the first week of practice to make their assessments.  Students selected for the team will be announced that last day.

This spring season’s registration fee is $675.  We are also requesting an advance hotel payment of $358.  The total amount for this season is $1,033. Hotel payment will be reimbursed if student is not invited.

Every spring season the team participates in an away regatta which involves a 2-night hotel stay. Due to the limit amount of rooms available – ONE ROOM PER ROWING FAMILY ONLY.

If the completed registration information has not been received by the above date, students will not be able to participate. If any student chooses not to participate in the sport at the end of the first week of practice, the money received will be refunded at that time.

If your child is selected for the team, you must attend a mandatory parent

meeting scheduled for March 14th at the High School, following the

Code of Conduct meeting.

At this meeting, the team coaches and the directors of the CSH Rowing Association will discuss team rules, regatta activities and overnight travel.

The crew team operates through a partnership between the High School and the Cold Spring Harbor Rowing Association, an independent non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from parents of the varsity crew team.  Because of the unique nature of participation in crew, active involvement of rower’s parents or guardians is essential.

Thank you for your interest in the Crew Team.  We’re looking forward to a terrific spring season.
